You Can Get Involved
The primary purpose of volunteers at the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence is to assist agency staff in activities that allow us to achieve our mission of providing emergency, supportive services. Volunteer activities range from direct service, organizing, cleaning, fundraising and special projects; like the one in the video. We hope to see you soon!
I’d like to volunteer some time! How do I go about doing that?
Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities:
Thank you so much for your interest in donating your time to help make a difference. Please note that in order to ensure the highest quality service and for the safety of our clients, quite a few of these positions require an application and screening process. This includes a complete criminal history/background check. We also request a minimum three-month commitment.
- Shelterhouse coverage/crisis line work (40 hours of training required)
- Provide supportive services to survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence.
- Provide appropriate crisis intervention – empathetic listening and empowerment counseling
- Provide appropriate referral information to callers about community agencies
- Thoroughly document crisis/referral calls on appropriate forms
- Child care for dependents of survivors during appointments, legal proceeding, job interviews, etc.
- Altrusa Teen SHARE Mentor
- Assist teens with life skills development
- Tutoring
Non-Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities:
- General house cleaning, laundry, organizing cupboards, etc.
- Sorting/putting away food in pantry, rotating food in pantry, re-stocking house cupboards with food.
- Fundraising/special projects
- Organizing and carrying out fundraising events with Fundraiser Committee or Board of Directors.
- Staffing a display or information table at community events.
- Making copies or stuffing envelopes.
- Assist with property facilities maintenance: painting, interior decorating projects, repair work, etc.
- Assist with grounds maintenance: landscaping, yard clean up, and special projects as needed.
- Arrange/pick up large item donations from community members/businesses.
- Helping clients move.
